Online Test for Dyslexia
Nowadays with modern technology it seems appropriate that an online test for dyslexia would be developed. The only online test for dyslexia that has been approved by the British Dyslexia Institute is at Am I Dyslexic?
Five doctors have developed this test. Looks at their credentials below:
John Everatt, BSc, PhD
Dr Everatt is a leading researcher in the field of literacy and dyslexia. He has published over 50 journal papers and book chapters in the areas of literacy and dyslexia as well as editing two books on these topics and being on the editorial board of the journal Dyslexia.
He has lectured to many groups including London, Surrey and Southampton Universities , and international conferences and training programmes.
He has a particular interest in dyslexia, and has undertaken research with Professor Margaret Snowling on teaching strategies and severe dyslexics. He managed a research project into teaching spellings to 6 to 7 year old children who were at risk of literacy failure. This major project completed in 1998, and was funded through the Department for Education and Employment. Findings included work linking at-risk children’s learning strategies to their cognitive development, and impressive results in applying individual learning strategies across all children in mainstream schools. Current interests include further work upon teaching strategies, the use of IT resources in dyslexia, mathematics and measures of phonology. He is a member of a research team at the University of Surrey under Dr. John Everatt with a particular interest in literacy and mathematical development, and dyslexia.
Publications have included a range of educational and psychological papers, the Helen Arkell Spelling Test, the Adult Reading Test, an adult computer-based screening test, and contributing author to the Phonological Assessment Battery.
Claire Zabell BSc Hons, PhD, C.Psychol.
Dr Zabell graduated with first class honours in her initial degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Westminster. She recently completed her PhD at the University of Surrey that included research into the identification of dyslexia in adults. She has co-written one published peer-reviewed paper, and has presented a paper at the BDA International Conference in 2001. Claire currently works with the multi-disciplinary team at Avon House Dyslexia Centre, providing Psychological Assessments for dyslexics of all ages.
Paul Giller BSc (Hons), MCP, MCAD, MCSD.NET.
